EDMONTON – Amidst a record-breaking season for the MacEwan Griffins, Kadyn Chabot has recorded another first.
On Tuesday, he was named Canada West BioSteel men's hockey player of the week for a third time in 2025-26, becoming the first MacEwan student-athlete in any sport to do so three times in the same season.
Chabot was previously named the conference's top men's hockey player on Nov. 18 and Jan. 13.
He won the honours one more time for his performance against Trinity Western last weekend when he racked up six points in a two-game weekend sweet of the Spartans.
"It's definitely very impressive," said Dailey of Chabot winning it three times this season. "He's a big reason we are where we are. He's leading Canada West in goals right now. He's doing a really good job offensively and is gaining some interest from pro, as well as being a great student, great teammate and a great leader.
"So, very proud of him. He's had a great season. I know he's going to be a very important piece for us this weekend and into the playoffs."
The player of the week honour marks the fourth of the season for a Griffins men's hockey player – the most by any MacEwan team in any CW season – as Dwayne Jean Jr. also won the award on Oct. 28. It's also the eighth Canada West Player of the Week honour across all sports for a Griffins student-athlete – the most of any season for MacEwan.
Chabot continued his incredible offensive campaign by recording a goal and three assists in MacEwan's 6-5 overtime win over Trinity Western last Friday.

He set up Liam Hughes for a one-timer on the Griffins' first goal, fed Brett Bamber for their second, scored the team's third off the rush and had the second assist on Keaton Dowhaniuk's OT winner.
On Saturday, Chabot was again a big contributor in MacEwan's 6-1 win over the Spartans as his point blast was tipped home by Bamber for the Griffins' first goal before he scored off the rush again to put the Griffins up 5-1 in the third period.

That tally was his 18th of the season and moved the Cranbrook, B.C. native into the Canada West goal-scoring lead. He also up to 35 points in 26 games, which is tied for fifth in the conference. Combined in the weekend series, Chabot had 14 shots.
"He's finding chemistry with his linemates at the right time," said Dailey. "I'm always encouraging him to have a shot-first mentality and use his shot.
"I thought he did a good job of being aggressively offensively this weekend without giving up anything defensively."
While Chabot earned player of the week honours, the Griffins' overall offence was incredibly balanced with 15 different players recording at least one point and five others with multi-point weekends.
"I think there were a few guys first half who weren't particularly happy with their production," said Dailey. "I think a lot of guys have turned it on the second half. I've been impressed with a lot of guys' ovrerall games, but just producing a bit more offensively.
"We're going to need everybody. Obviously, teams' game plans are going to be focused on Kadyn and we're going to need other guys to step up as well if we're going to be successful."
The Griffins head into a weekend home-and-home series vs. cross-town rival Alberta on Friday (7 p.m., Clare Drake Arena) and Saturday (5 p.m., Downtown Community Arena, both Canada West TV).
