EDMONTON – No matter where he played – for six different junior teams over a span of five seasons, to be exact – the sentiment was the same.
Dylan Bidyk brought competitive fire, played physical and brought the skating, IQ and full skill-set to impact his team's fortunes from the blueline.
Next stop is the MacEwan Griffins men's hockey team as the Calgary native launches into a promising U SPORTS career this fall.
"He's ultra-competitive, physical, hard to play against and skates well," said Griffins head coach Zack Dailey. "This is the theme we're trying to get with our defencemen. We want people who are hard to play against, can skate and play physical and he's all of that."
Bidyk finished his junior career with a solid 2024-25, putting up 27 points in 57 games combined between the Devon Xtreme and Camrose Kodiaks, to whom he was traded last December. With the Kodiaks, he wore an 'A'.
"Dylan showed up every day with the work ethic and drive that made those around him better," said Kodiaks GM Eric Kroetch on the team's website. "That kind of maturity and leadership comes from a player who's logged over 200 junior games. I couldn't be more happy for Dylan and his family."
Bidyk logged 227 junior games over five seasons, also playing for the Canmore Eagles (2021-22), Calgary Canucks (2022-23), Fort McMurray Oil Barons (2023-24) and Sherwood Park Crusaders (2024).
All told, he finished with 79 points in junior to complement his defensive game.
"He definitely has some offensive upside as well," said Dailey. "I think he breaks pucks out quite well and does a great job on the offensive blueline.
"So, he's another guy who's going to come in and push to play right away, and create a very competitive defensive corps in terms of making the lineup."
