EDMONTON – After what she was in the midst of accomplishing for Douglas College in 2024-25, Griffins women's volleyball head coach Chris Wandler was further intrigued when he saw the skill set Alana Murr has during a December recruiting visit to MacEwan.
As such, the 6-foot-3 middle blocker will be joining Douglas teammate Anna von Krosigk on the Griffins, both entering their third season of university eligibility in 2025-26.
"When she came here in December for her visit, we really liked the offence," said Wandler. "She runs the step-around really well, she blocks the ball really well, she's smart and very inquisitive about the game.
"We think her upside is quite a bit. We think she'll be an immediate impact player for us."
The Victoria, B.C. product finished the 2024-25 season second in PAC West in blocks/set and has a path to immediate playing time with the Griffins, who return just one starting middle blocker – reigning Canada West all-rookie team member Anika Buys.
Murr, who graduated from Oak Bay high school, not only has size, but the mobility to get around the block.
"Her feet are really good and she's got a great arm swing."
