EDMONTON – Completing the new era of MacEwan women's soccer goalkeeping, the team's latest addition to their 2025 recruiting class is a fast-rising prospect who can be counted upon to make timely saves at the Canada West level.
Addison Manegre is a product of Edmonton Sting FC and was also one of the goalkeepers on Northwest United/St. Albert Impact's 2024 roster that went to the national club championship.
"Addy has had tremendous growth over the last couple of years and that's what excites us the most," said Griffins head coach Dean Cordeiro. "She's a tremendous shot stopper and has a high ceiling. She's been someone we've had an eye on here for a while.
"Now that she's moved on to women's soccer, she's been a standout."
Manegre joins previously announced recruit Carly Uchacz and third-year returner Sabrina Alexander in the position group for the Griffins in 2025-26.
"Addy's going to be someone who can step in and really add to our goalkeeper union," said Cordeiro. "The future is bright with the three goalkeepers we have moving forward; Sabrina, Carly and Addy.
"They're young in their careers, so they're going to have to gain some experience, but I like where they're at in their youth and adult careers. They're already very battle-tested, so it will just be the next step in their development."
Injury woes at the position last year – (for a stretch, they only had one healthy goalkeeper) – have taught a lesson that teams need multiple goalkeepers capable of carrying the load to ensure success. Cordeiro feels confident all three of them are ready to step up when called upon.
"They're three local kids, who I've been fortunate enough to have worked with or seen from afar these last few years," he said. "I think it gives us good balance at the position.
"These three will put us in the position to get the job done day in and day out."
