New recruit Agbey brings physicality, defensive mindset to the Griffins

EDMONTON – Building a team that will stand up to the rigours and physicality of the Canada West men's basketball ranks, the MacEwan Griffins have landed another key piece in their 2022 recruiting class.
Head coach Mike Connolly on Friday announced the addition forward David Agbey out of Edmonton's Western Canada Prep Academy and previously Harry Ainlay high school. He will join the Griffins for the 2022-23 season.
"He's a 6-foot-3, 220-pound thick, athletic guy that we need to play at this level," said Connolly. "He's a big, strong kid that's already developed physically."
Agbey can't wait to get into the program and bring his talents to the fore.
"I'm looking forward to coming in with a defence-first mindset," he said. "It's definitely an important part of the game for me – you can always draw a charge or get a big stop to help the team."
As with all of his new prospects, Agbey will require some seasoning, but Connolly's excited to get him into the program and on the path of development.
"We've been watching him play and watching his progress," he said. "Through our conversations, we find out he's interested in criminology and becoming a policeman, so this is a perfect place for him to be.
"I think David has a lot of potential. He's a heck of an athlete and a great physical specimen, so we have something to work with and we'll train him."
