Three Stars: Currie, Ntumba, Obasuyi earn honours
MacEwan Athletics
EDMONTON – Women's hockey student-athlete Taya Currie is the MacEwan Athletics' first star of the week after her 28-save shutout against the Calgary Dinos last Friday.
Making several high-danger saves in a contest the Griffins were outshot in, the second-year goaltender led MacEwan to a 1-0 overtime win over the Dinos.
Men's basketball forward Nathanael Ntumba and women's basketball forward Unity Obasuyi are the second and third stars, respectively.
It's the first appearance of 2025-26 on the Three Stars list for all three student-athletes.

With an impressive performance on Friday against the Calgary Dinos in #YYC, Currie led the Griffins to a 1-0 overtime win, stopping all 28 shots she faced for her first career Canada West shutout.
It was also her first career Canada West win after transferring into the program from NCAA Div. 1 Providence College.
Making multiple high danger saves throughout the contest, Currie was locked in during a late third period penalty kill that got the Griffins into overtime before captain Sydney Olsen ended it on a powerplay point blast.
Shout out to Taya Currie, who has her first career @CanadaWest shutout!

For the season, Currie is among the Canada West leaders with a 2.35 GAA and .925 save percentage.
She will lead the Griffins into a home doubleheader this weekend as they host Regina on Friday (7 p.m.) and Saturday (5 p.m., both Downtown Community Arena, Canada West TV).
Nate Ntumba finished Saturday's 79-70 win over Winnipeg with 15 rebounds, including nine defensive, leading an intense effort to secure the win (Husain Dhooma photo).

It was certainly a total team effort for the Griffins to beat U SPORTS No. 5 Winnipeg 79-70 last Saturday, but the incredible defensive performance by Ntumba stands out as the biggest key to one of the biggest wins in program history.
The 6-foot-8 forward had a beastly performance, seemingly all over the defensive half-court, disrupting everything the Wesmen were trying to accomplish on offence.
When the dust cleared, he had 15 rebounds (including nine defensive), a big reason why the Griffins sealed victory. His rebound total is tied for the third-most by a Griffins player in a Canada West game.
A look back at one of Nate Ntumba's hard-fought rebounds in the Griffins' big win over Winnipeg last Saturday.

For the season, Ntumba is averaging 8.3 rebounds/game, which leads the Griffins and is tied for fifth in Canada West.
The Griffins will host Thompson Rivers on Friday (7 p.m.) and Saturday (5 p.m., both David Atkinson Gym, Canada West TV).
Unity Obasuyi recorded a combined 48 points in a pair of games against Winnipeg last weekend, highlighted by a career-high 31 on Saturday (Husain Dhooma photo).
3rd STAR: Unity Obasuyi, F, women's basketball
Edmonton, AB, third-year, Commerce
Last year might have just been a warmup for Obasuyi after she set a new program record by accounting for 31.54% of the Griffins' total offence. She's currently at 50%
Her dominant individual weekend including scoring a combined 48 points in two games against Winnipeg.
In Saturday's 75-52 loss, she had a career-high 31 points – which is the fifth-most by a Griffins player in a Canada West contest. Obasuyi added two rebounds, a steal and a block.
