EDMONTON – Rounding out a stellar recruiting class 10 athletes strong, the Griffins have added another local product to their middle blocker position group in NAVC's Lauren Walker.
The 6-foot Austin O'Brien product will be looking to learn in her first season in Canada West in 2025-26 with an eye on making an impact in the future.
"She's an undersized middle blocker, who will help with the depth part of our team," said head coach Chris Wandler. "There is lots of upside to the person, coming onto a roster where we have more than five middle blockers. So, she knows her time is going to be spent on herself getting physically better and stepping up her game. It's more long-term aspirations with Lauren."
Walker also played basketball for Austin O'Brien and brings some strong athleticism to MacEwan where she can help bolster a promising middle blocker group. She's one of three new middles joining a position group with returners Kara Frith and Anika Buys leading the way.
"I'm very happy with the class," said Wandler. "The athleticism that's coming in, the type of people – they know they don't have to do anything different as a person coming in. They need to be good teammates and work hard to create a level and a standard that's another step up. And just start maintaining that and being good every day.
"I'm really excited what this group is going to allow us to do in the future."
