2026-27 schedule: Promising new season kicks off with Oct. 9 home opener vs. Mount Royal

EDMONTON – Circle Oct. 9 on your calendar, Griffins women's hockey fans.
MacEwan will host Mount Royal in their home opener that evening (7 p.m., Downtown Community Arena), kicking off a 28-game regular season schedule, announced by Canada West on Thursday.
"As always, we're anticipating competitive division matchups and equally as challenging games against our out-of-division opponents," said interim head coach Izzy Cropper. "There are no nights off in Canada West and we're eager to get the 2026-27 group into Edmonton and ready for the season."

Fans can catch all of the matches on Canada West TV Powered by BioSteel. Early bird pricing for the CWTV All-Access and Sport passes go on sale in early August.
The Griffins, back in the East Division in 2026-27, will be vying to net one of three playoff spots available to their group of four, which also includes Alberta, Calgary and Mount Royal.
UBC, Trinity Western, Regina, Saskatchewan and Manitoba will by going for the other three playoff spots out of the West Division.
The Griffins will renew their cross-town rivalry with the Alberta Pandas Oct. 16-17 with the Saturday match at the DCA (5 p.m.). They'll play each one of their division rivals six times, including the Calgary Dinos, with whom they'll meet on the final weekend of the regular season, Feb. 19-20.
The Griffins will be aiming to land a playoff spot for the first time since joining Canada West in 2021. Should they qualify, the quarterfinals – featuring best-of-three cross-over matches between the No. 2 and No. 3 teams in each division – would take place Feb. 26-28.
The No. 1 seeds in each division will host the winners of those two series in best-of-three semifinal series March 5-7. The Canada West best-of-three championship series takes place March 12-14.
U SPORTS nationals will be hosted by the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, N.B., from March 25-28.
