EDMONTON – Bringing provincial team experience from Saskatchewan, the latest Griffins women's basketball recruit has the ability to come up clutch in pressure situations.
Bella Kurz out of Regina's Balfour Collegiate high school will join MacEwan in 2025-26, head coach Katherine Adams announced on Wednesday.
The product of Golden Ticket basketball has the ability to play either guard spot, and has a varied skill-set that will help the Griffins immediately as they endeavour to return to the Canada West playoffs.
"She's a gamer and has showcased distribution skills that are very good," said Adams. "She's a great passer and sees the floor really well. She can score. In watching her compete with her high school team, that was one thing that really impressed us was her ability to just make things happen when her team needed it."
A November 2024 article at The Maple Minute ranked her as the fifth-best Grade 12 girls basketball player in Saskatchewan, highlighting her ability to shoot from long distance and make smart decisions with the rock, and that whoever signs her will be 'gaining an exceptional player.'
"We're excited about how she's going to come in and challenge the athletes we currently have, and continue to feed into the style of play we're looking to play moving forward," said Adams.
