EDMONTON – Bringing extensive experience working with high-level athletes in a variety of sports, Tristan Hynes is joining the Griffins as the department's interim strength & conditioning specialist, MacEwan Director of Athletics Joel Mrak announced Friday.
Hynes, who graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Kinesiology, Sport Performance in 2025, is excited to take on the new role at MacEwan.
"It's an incredible opportunity for me," said Hynes. "It's a big step in my career to have an opportunity to coach as many athletes as MacEwan has. I'm super excited to get started and help out with the success of the athletes there."
Hynes will bring experience working with Canada West athletes for the past two seasons in various roles with the Alberta Bears and Pandas. He has also interned with former Griffins strength & conditioning coach Melissa Lowe at Mellowe High Performance.
"I've been very fortunate to be exposed to multiple different sports," he said. "I have experience coaching almost every sport within U SPORTS in general.
"I don't specify in one, which I think is a big strength coming in. I think it's going to translate really well between each of the teams at MacEwan."
Hynes, who will start at MacEwan on July 6, will soon be pursuing a Master of Science in Exercise Science degree from Edith Cowan University in Perth, Australia.
He is also currently employed as lead strength and conditioning coach at Strathcona high school and head of sport performance at ORKA Performance in Edmonton.
"Tristan brings a lot of great experience to the strength and conditioning role, and we look forward to him pushing the Griffins to a higher performance level this season," said Mrak. "His excitement is infectious and we are excited for him to get to work with the student-athletes."
